I recently bought a Dell 1905FP for use with my aging Mac. I have a retail Radeon 9000 Pro for video. The problem I'm having is that several times an hour the screen goes black for about one second. I'm in talks with Dell tech support but they have been their usual worthless selfs. I was convinced it was the monitor until I saw this under Apple System Profiler: Displays: DELL 1905FP: Display Type:CRT Resolution:1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz Depth:32-bit Color Core Image:Not Supported Main Display:Yes Mirror:Off Online:Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported Display: Online:No Status:No display connected The monitor is connected via DVI. Note that under type it is listed as a CRT and under display it says it isn't online or connected.

The OP was thinking that misreporting might be indicative of an incompatibility. The incorrect Online status and 'No display connected' status are also possibly the sign of a problem with the display, or of an incompatibility with the video card/OS (though this seems unlikely to me). The incorrect Online status and 'No display connected' are for a second monitor or lack of actually. That's why everyone with two monitors connected see the opposite. Have you tried connecting the display to a different machine to see if it blacks out on that as well? I use a Dell 2001FP spanned w/ my PBook, works fine, but I also have a Philips 19' CRT on my lesser-used PC next to it, and it goes black for one second (as if flicking into power-saver mode) frequently sometimes, randomly. I haven't gotten around to troubleshooting it yet, but for some reason, I suspect it's my graphics card or more likely a bad cable/connection. Have you tried a new/different cable?

Even though it's probably a bad cable, when I showed my boss my flicking display, he said, 'req a new monitor.' Which would probably be at least another 2001FP, maybe one of those 24-inchers.
